Retired Local 412 President Paul "PJ" Carr Has Passed Away

Paul Joseph (PJ) Carr of Detroit, Michigan, and the village of Amelia, age 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 14, after a long illness, surrounded by loved ones.  He was preceded in death by his mother Margaret Carr (Woolheater), father Daniel Carr, brother Daniel Carr, and sister Mary Gallagher (Carr).

 

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol Ann (D'Achille), their children, Catherine Vyse (John), Mary Rowan (Thomas), Michael Carr (Christina), grandchildren, Daniel Snyder (Claire), Paul Snyder (Rachel), Michele Hourani (Ben), David Snyder, Margaret Rowan and George Rowan, and great grandsons Michael and Brooks Snyder and many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

 

PJ attended Saint Rose of Lima school in Detroit, Michigan, where he made and maintained lifelong friendships. He served proudly in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. He was a second-generation Chrysler employee in Detroit, Michigan, where he worked for 43 years, and he proudly served as the president of the United Auto Workers local 412 serving more than 10 years.

 

Since moving to the villages, PJ enjoyed golfing with his buddies on courses throughout The Villages and enjoyed the time they spent together after a round of golf at Mallory Hill country club. He enjoyed playing poker with his friends, watching his Detroit sports teams and attending Yankees spring training in Tampa to watch the Tigers play the Yankees.

 

Most of all he loved time spent with family while attending baptisms, confirmations, graduations, grandkids' activities, weddings, holidays, and any event that brought family together. These special times always included a game of cards or dominoes with family at the end of the day.

 

PJ and Carol are devoted members of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and found their strength in their faith with their St. Vincent de Paul family.

 

Funeral will be held at St. Vincent de Paul, 5323 East County Rd. 462 (Powell Road) on Tuesday, August 27 at 11 AM, internment at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida, followed by a celebration of life at the Eisenhower Recreation Center in The Villages.
