UAW LUCA Conference, May 12-17, 2019

This conference is for all union communicators.

Who is a UAW communicator? A UAW member who has: 

  • Edited or helped produce a local union newsletter, website or social media page such as Facebook, Twitter, etc.
  • Produced a video for a local.
  • Talked about issues that concern UAW members to a local community or political group.
  • Addressed a public meeting as a representative of the UAW.
  • Written a letter about issues of working men and women to the editor of your community newspaper or another outlet.

 Eligibility to Attend

 This conference is open to UAW members in good standing who are interested in learning more about effective communication and the importance of the communication needs of all union members.  Members in good standing include members who are on layoff or on strike.  Members on sick leave, retired members, and spouses who are not members of your local union are not eligible to attend.

 Lost Time

Travel and lost time are the sole responsibility of the local union.

The conference fee is $650, which includes a non-refundable $50 registration fee.  This conference fee covers the cost of lodging, meals, and materials for the conference.  All housing is based on double occupancy.  Individual checks in the amount of $650 for each delegate should be made payable to “International Union, UAW,” and be mailed with the attached registration form to:

Transportation

Local unions are responsible for delegate transportation costs.  All delegates are expected to arrive at the center by noon on Sunday, May 12th, are required to attend all designated   workshops, and remain until the conference concludes on Friday,

 May 17th  after the morning session.  Lunch will not be served that day.  Arrivals and departure should be arranged accordingly.

Delegates who drive to the Family Education Center should be informed of the “Multiples of Three” rule.  When a local sends more than one delegate to the session, delegates should travel in multiples of up to three per vehicle.  Only one driver per local, per multiples of three is reimbursed for mileage by the International Union.

 Classes/Workshops

Delegates will participate in a great line-up of newsmaker sessions and afternoon classes geared toward the 21st-century communication needs of the local unions, including digital tools such as websites, Facebook, Twitter, e-blasts, and training in the multi-platforms of writing, digital photography, and video production.
