You can support high-quality union jobs in the US auto industry by buying products that are made by UAW members!

Buying union-made, American-made products supports keeping jobs here in the United States, which helps the whole of the American economy.  For every one manufacturing job created in the US, 3.4 nonmanufacturing jobs are created.

Before making any vehicle purchase, check the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to find where it was made.  The first character (number or letter) of the VIN tells you the vehicle's country of origin.

Only VINs starting with 1, 4, or 5 were built in the United States.

VINs starting with 2 were built in Canada.  GM, Ford, and Chrysler products made in Canada are also union-made, represented by Unifor.

Some vehicles are made in multiple plants around the world.  For example, the Chevy Equinox is made in both Canada and Mexico.  Insist on seeing the VIN number before you make a purchase!

Note that there are some vehicles built by other companies (ex: Tesla, Nissan, Toyota, Mercedes, BMW, Hyundai, Kia, Honda) in the United States and Canada.  Workers at those companies are currently not union-represented.  We strongly encourage buyers to look for the union label when making your vehicle purchase.  Union-made means workers have a voice on the job to negotiate issues such as wages, hours, safety, and general working conditions, which is not the case at non-union worksites.  Workers have attempted to organize unions at several of these automakers and have been met with hostility and union-busting tactics by their employers.
