Vote by Absentee Ballot!
UAW Region 1 strongly encourages members and their families to exercise their right to vote in every election. Ensure that your voice is heard by making a plan in advance of Election Day for how and where you will cast your ballot.
In 2018, Michiganders voted overwhelmingly in favor of the statewide ballot proposal 18-3. The passage of this proposal granted all registered voters in Michigan the right to request an absent voter ballot without providing a reason.
All registered voters in Michigan now have the right to vote absentee by mail. The process is secure, convenient, and accurate. Given public health concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, voting by mail is a safe way to participate in the election while protecting your health.
The process for obtaining an absentee ballot is simple. You simply need to fill out the application, sign it, and mail or email it to your local clerk. You will then receive your ballot in the mail. After receiving your absent voter ballot, you have until 8 p.m. on Election Day to complete the ballot and return it to the clerk's office. You can drop off your completed ballot in person at the clerk's office, or you can mail it.
If you apply for an absentee ballot, but then later change your plan and decide to vote in person instead, you can still do so. Check the Michigan SOS website for more information about how to spoil your absent voter ballot.
