Andrea Mitchell serves as Vice President of UAW Local 653 in Pontiac, Michigan, where she works alongside President James Gonzales to represent members across multiple bargaining units, including General Motors facilities, Milford Proving Grounds, and Challenge Manufacturing.
A proud union member with nearly two decades of active service, Andrea has dedicated herself to advocating for working families, strengthening member involvement, and promoting solidarity throughout the local. Her experience includes grievance handling, collective bargaining support, contract negotiations, health and safety advocacy, election committee service, and leadership development through numerous UAW training programs.
During major labor actions, including the 2023 UAW strike, Andrea played an active role in member support efforts, strike preparedness, community outreach, picket line coordination, and ensuring members and their families had access to essential resources. She believes strong unions are built through unity, communication, and active member participation.
Andrea holds a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from Marygrove College, with minors in Mental Health and Gerontology. Her educational background has strengthened her commitment to serving others, advocating for fairness, and helping members navigate workplace challenges.
Throughout her union career, Andrea has served as a leader within the UAW/GM Women's Committee, contributed to V-CAP, attended leadership and conference programs at Black Lake, and continued expanding her knowledge through health and safety and labor education training.
Andrea believes the strength of Local 653 comes from its membership. She remains committed to protecting workers' rights, supporting union families, and helping build a stronger future for the next generation of UAW members.
