UAW Collective Bargaining Conference - March 31- April 5, 2019

The   UAW  Education Department will hold its Collective  Bargaining Conference from March 31, 2019 – April 5, 2019, at the Walter and May Reuther UAW Family Education Center in Onaway, Michigan.

Delegates to this conference will learn the ins and outs of collective bargaining from experienced union negotiators.  Some of the topics will include: laying the foundation of solidarity for bargaining at their locals, running digital member-to-member programs, staying organized during bargaining, the roles of bargaining committee members, reaching tentative agreements, costing contracts, ratification, and more.  Delegates will participate in a mock bargaining session.  Ideal attendees are members who are currently serving on bargaining committees, or members who wish to learn more about the bargaining process.

Eligibility to Attend

This conference is open to UAW active members in good standing who are interested in learning about the bargaining process.  This includes members who are on lay-off or on strike.  Members on sick leave, retired members, and spouses who are not members of your local union are not eligible to attend.

Lost Time

The payment of lost time is the sole responsibility of the local union.

Registration Fee and Cut-off Date

Delegates must complete the enclosed conference registration form and return it to the Region 1 office, along with a check or money order in the amount of $650 made payable to “International Union,” UAW no later than Monday, February 11, 2019.  The registration fee covers the cost of lodging, meals and materials and is non-refundable.  All housing is based on double occupancy.  Conference registration forms received without the fee cannot be processed.

Transportation

Local unions are responsible for all transportation costs.  All delegates are expected to arrive at the center by noon on Sunday, March 31st and remain until the conference concludes at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 5th. 

Delegates who drive to the Family Education Center should be informed of the “Multiples of Three” rule.  When a local sends more than one delegate to the session, delegates should travel in multiples of up to three per vehicle.  Only one driver per local, per multiples of three is reimbursed for mileage by the International Union.

Cancellation and Refunds

Registration fees are non-refundable.  Local unions should select alternates to replace delegates who must cancel.  This conference is an investment in the future of your local union.

Miscellaneous Information for Delegates

  • Please bring a red shirt to participate in “red shirt” Wednesday.

The first meal of the conference will be dinner on Sunday, March 31st and the last meal of the conference will be breakfast on Friday, April 5th.
