UAW  Region 1 is offering five weeks of FREE educational workshops beginning Tuesday,  April 2, 2019.  Participants will have a choice between morning (10 a.m. – 12 p.m.) or evening (5  – 7 p.m.) workshops.  Each workshop is for five consecutive weeks.  Participants must attend four out of five training sessions to receive a Certificate of Completion.  The certificates will be handed out on the 5th week of class.

Workshops being offered this season are:

                             TUESDAY CLASSES – Morning or Evening:  (April 2, 9, 16, 23, 30)

  • Grievance Handling:  This course teaches the skills needed to represent workers with grievances.  Topics include:  what is and is not a grievance, proper grievance investigation techniques and written grievance presentation skills. 

Prerequisites:  None

  • Union Protocols and Strike Preparation:   Participants will spend four weeks learning and discussing the protocols, “Do’s and Don’ts” and basic UAW membership information.  Additionally, participants will receive an introduction into what steps are necessary if they are facing a strike.  This course is designed for all members who want a better understanding of how the UAW works.  It would be valuable to the rank and file who are new to the UAW and its procedures.  This course will review such topics as the UAW’s hierarchy, how and where dues dollars are distributed, as well as other grassroots level information.

Prerequisites:  None

All workshops will be held at Region 1.  The registration form can be downloaded hereTHE PRESIDENT OR FINANCIAL OFFICER MUST VERIFY THAT THE PARTICIPANT IS A MEMBER IN GOOD STANDING.  The graduation ceremony will be on Tuesday, April 30th  for ALL sessions.  All forms must be returned to UAW Region 1 no later than March 29, 2019.  Registration forms may be faxed to 586-427-7142 or sent by U.S. mail.  After the forms are submitted, the students should report to class at their selected times.  No confirmation letter will be sent.
