2019 UAW Health and Safety Institute, March 24-29, 2019

The 2019 UAW Health & Safety Institute will be held at the Walter and May Reuther UAW Family Education Center, Sunday, March 24 through Friday, March 29, 2019.

The Health & Safety Institute will provide education and updates on topics needed by health & safety representatives, health & safety committee members and local union representatives to address industrial hygiene, ergonomics and health and safety issues at their locations.  The curriculum this year will once again include courses offered through the OSHA Training Institute  Education Center (OTIEC). Credits earned taking these courses can be applied toward the Health and Safety “Specialist” and “Professional” credentials issued by the Great Lakes OTIEC. Some of the courses that will be offered this year include multiple Ergonomic classes, Metal Working Fluids, Ventilation, Electrical Safety, Cranes and Rigging, Industrial Emergency Response and more. Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) will also be issued for those maintaining professional credentials.

 The Health & Safety Institute registration fee is $675 per delegateChecks should be made payable to International Union, UAW.”  It is suggested that the local generate a single check to cover the registration fees for its delegates.

Due to the popularity of this conference, the campus will be filled to capacity.  Therefore, spouses of delegates cannot be accommodated.  Also, there are no private rooms.  Delegates will be housed two delegates per student unit or three per family unit.

LOST TIME

The local unions are responsible for lost time and registration fees for all delegates.  There are no provisions for lost time reimbursements connected with the Health & Safety Institute.

DELEGATES DRIVING

Delegates from the same local will be encouraged to carpool.  Mileage will be reimbursed according to the local union’s bylaws, up to the IRS authorized rate.  Please plan on arriving at the Family Education Center between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, 2019.  The Health & Safety Institute will begin promptly at 5 p.m. in the main lecture hall.  All delegates are expected to attend. 

 DEADLINES

The deadline for registration is Friday, March 8, 2019.  As we expect a full Health & Safety Institute, no late registrations will be honored this year.

 CANCELLATIONS

Cancellations must be received no later than Friday, March 15, 2019 to qualify for a refund of registration fees.
