UAW Local 400

50th Anniversary Martin Luther King, Jr. – Freedom Walk, June 22, 2013 in Detroit, Michigan

The Freedom Walk was successful in 1963 because then President Walter Reuther and the UAW supported and helped fund the Walk, while thousands of UAW members marched alongside Dr. King and the Freedom Walkers.

It is imperative that Region 1 is well represented and that we support the Freedom Walk. To show our commitment to carrying out Dr. King’s Dream of providing social and economic justice for all, I am asking for your help in mobilizing our union brothers and sisters to “Take a Step” in the Freedom Walk on June 22, 2013.

Staging will begin at 7 AM at Forest and Woodward, with individuals and organizations staging on streets south of Forest to Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. (see map). The Freedom Walk will kick off at 9 AM from the corner of Woodward and Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. It will conclude at Hart Plaza, with a rally at 11:30 AM.
